pgpg42In preparation for a trip I took the Prowler on a shakedown cruise. Hit a bump on the expressway and began to hear a loud whine which sounded just like a supercharger. It was rpm related and lasted only a few miles. I have not been able to duplicate the whine. I suspect that hitting the bump was a conincidence and may have had nothing to do with the noise. Prowler is an 01 with only 7,000 miles on it. The miles have been put on within the last 3 years.

Ironically I recently had the same noise appear in a Corvette. The noise persisted and was easy to diagnose, it was an idler pulley for the serpentine belt.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Thank you,
Dave

robinNoises like that tend to be related to pulleys.
Check the belts make sure they are in good shape and are tight to spec.
Start car and listen for any noise around the pulleys. If you remove the radiator cover you can visually see the belts and pulleys. Make sure everything is running smooth with no wobble.
Belt tensioner
Alternator pulley or the decoupler on the alternator
Idler pulley
But if the noise is gone you can't really diagnos the problem you would be throwing money away on the wrong problem. Potentially
